Busting Balls
Arrogant? Weird? Divisive? Who are you, Aaron?
There's no argument about Aaron Rodgers the football player. Four MVP awards, a Super Bowl championship, one of the sweetest arms the NFL has ever seen, and enough ridiculous throws to fill a highlight reel longer than a Sunday afternoon.
Football Hall of Fame? Absolutely. First ballot.
But then Aaron starts talking.
And that's when we start Busting Balls.
Rodgers has spent years cultivating the image of the guy who sees things the rest of us supposedly don't. Vaccines. Conspiracy theories. Politics. Darkness retreats. Alternative medicine. Government. The media. You name the subject, and there's a decent chance Aaron has an unconventional opinion about it.
Having unconventional opinions isn't a crime. Neither is questioning authority. In fact, we could probably use more people willing to challenge conventional thinking.
But there comes a point when being the smartest guy in the room starts sounding a lot like trying to convince everyone that you're the smartest guy in the room.
Arrogant? Weird? Divisive? You decide.
What makes Rodgers so fascinating—and frustrating—is the contrast. This is an extraordinarily intelligent football player. Put him at the line of scrimmage with 11 defenders trying to fool him, and few quarterbacks have ever processed the game better.
Put a microphone in front of him? Buckle up.
Rodgers has every right to believe whatever he wants. He has every right to speak his mind. And everyone else has the same right to say, Aaron, what the hell are you talking about?
That's the beauty of sports. We don't have to pretend our heroes are perfect because they can throw a football 60 yards.
So we'll give Rodgers his gold jacket when Canton comes calling. He earned it.
But we're keeping another jacket hanging in the Bald Sports Guys closet.
Football Hall of Fame. Male Hall of Shame.
Maybe Aaron would disagree. Actually, we're pretty sure he would. And he'd probably have a three-hour podcast explaining why.
Who are you, Aaron?
Welcome to Busting Balls. No filter. Just sports. We call it like we see it.
